Welcome to the Muswellbrook Shire Libraries eNewsletter – the best way to stay up to date with all the news and events from the Muswellbrook and Denman Branches. Don’t forget to follow us on our Instagram or Facebook for ongoing news and events.

This month Muswellbrook and Denman Libraries have a range of activities for all ages, including an author visit with Darcy Tindale, Book Week, an exhibition by Shire local Ted George and more! Be sure to check out what’s on below and contact your local branch for more information.

Book Week: August 16th to 23rd

The 2025 theme for Book Week is Book an Adventure!

2025 is a milestone year for CBCA as they celebrate 80 years of Children’s Book Week! For 8 decades, CBCA has been dedicated to inspiring young minds to journey through the countless worlds that books offer. Jess McGeachin’s imaginative artwork reflects this mission perfectly, encouraging children to set off on adventures through time, lands, and imagination!

Science Week 2025
August 9th to 17th

National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology and thousands of individuals – from students, to scientists to chefs and musicians – get involved, taking part in science events across the nation.

It provides an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of Australian scientists’ to the world of knowledge. It also aims to encourage an interest in science pursuits among the general public, and to encourage younger people to become fascinated by the world we live in.

Exhibitions

Santa Gertrudis Collection
On Exhibit until October
At the Muswellbrook Library.

Muswellbrook Library is featuring a new exhibit by local resident Ted George.
The exhibit showcases a unique collection focused on Santa Gertrudis cattle will be on display until October. The display includes historic photographs, sales brochures, and detailed breed information, all drawn from Ted’s long-standing interest and knowledge of the breed.

What’s on for Children

STORY TIME AND BABY RHYME TIME

Join us weekly at our story time and rhyme sessions filled with stories, song and creativity.

MUSWELLBROOK LIBRARY’S SESSIONS

Baby Rhyme Time: Monday mornings at 10:00AM – 10:45AM

Story Time and Craft: Thursday mornings at 10:00AM – 11:00AM

DENMAN LIBRARY’S SESSIONS

Rhyme Time sessions will run weekly on Mondays from 10:00AM.

LEGO CLUB

Join in on Lego building challenges that will make you think outside the box and push your building skills to the limit. Bookings are essential.

MUSWELLBROOK LIBRARY’S SESSIONS

Muswellbrook Library’s Lego Club is held on the first and third Mondays of each month.Monday, August 4 and 18 from 3:45PM to 4:45PM.

DENMAN LIBRARY’S SESSION

Denman Library’s Lego Club is held on the third Tuesday of each month.Tuesday, August 19 from 3:20PM to 4:20PM.

Contact your local branch for more information.

Suitable for ages 6 – 12 years.
Children under the age of 13 must be supervised by an adult at all times.


CIRCLE TIME AT MUSWELLBROOK LIBRARY 

Join us at Muswellbrook Library for an interactive Circle Time session, that will be filled with movement, music and craft! Suitable for ages 0-6 years.

Circle Time sessions will be fortnightly on Tuesdays. Sessions this month will be held on Tuesdays, August 12 and 26 from 10am.


CODING CLUB AT DENMAN LIBRARY

Learn how to code, build with Lego Technic and more in these interactive monthly sessions at Denman Library.
Bookings essential.

Sessions will be held monthly on the first Tuesday of each month.
The next session will he held on Tuesday August 5 at 3:20PM to 4:20PM

Suitable for ages 5-12 years. Siblings are welcome.

What’s on for Adults

BEN’S BOOK CLUB

Join Ben Hobson in conversation author Michael Brissenden as he discusses ‘Smoke’, this year’s chosen title for the Together We Read book club.
This month’s session will be held on Tuesday, August 26th, at 7:30PM AEST.

Our Services

CHILDREN’S EARLY READING PROGRAMS 

The Dolly Parton Imagination Library
Thanks to the generous support of our funding partner, AGL, eligible families can now access this program at no cost. This program delivers a free, high-quality, age-appropriate book each month to children from birth until their fifth birthday — helping to build early literacy skills and a lifelong love of reading. Children born on or after July 1, 2025, are eligible to register!

Rising Readers: 1000 Books Before School
Reading helps build social and emotional skills, sparks creativity and imagination, promotes bonding, and helps kids do well overall in school. This reading program is open for children ages 0-5 years and aims to add reading to your daily routines!!

HOME LIBRARY SERVICE

Did you know we run a free home library service to housebound members of the Muswellbrook and Denman Communities? We can pick for you, or you can use our online catalogue to make a selection of books, DVDs, CDs and Audio books that pique your interest. We also have audio readers available for members with low to no vision.

Deliveries will be made on August 5th and 19th.

Our FREE Click and Collect services are now available at Muswellbrook and Denman Branches to eligible library members. Reserve things you are interested in or let us make selections for you.

TECH HELP

These BYO device sessions are designed to help you get started on library digital collections, learn how to use your device and general tech assistance.

These sessions can be booked one-on-one for a maximum of half an hour.
