This month Muswellbrook and Denman Libraries have some fantastic events for all ages! ‘Make a Splash’ with our Summer Reading Challenge from December 1, and get into the festive spirit at Story Times on Thursday mornings! Be sure to check out else is happening at the library below and contact your local branch for more information.

Summer Reading Challenge 2022: Make a Splash!
Registrations open December 1, 2022

This summer, make a splash and dive into a great book! Log your minutes reading and and discover fun activities while you’re at it! — All while earning badges on a bingo card!

From Thursday, December 1, 2022- Friday, January 27, 2023, Muswellbrook Shire Libraries is participating in ‘Make a Splash’, a Summer reading challenge in partnership with the Muswellbrook Shire Aquatic Centres! We challenge our community to read and log their books to earn entry passes into our local aquatic centres during the challenge.

How it works!

1. Register for the challenge by contacting or visiting Muswellbrook or Denman Branch – you will need to have a library card in order to participate.
2. Track your progress on the Beanstack app OR request a print bingo sheet. If you are using the Beanstack app, you will need to register using your library card number, then join the challenge! Be sure to ask staff for assistance in getting started!
3. Log your reading minutes on Beanstack or your printed bingo sheet and complete the activities to earn badges. There are 16 badges to earn throughout the challenge!
4. Once you complete a row or column on your bingo sheet, show staff at either branch to receive your entry token into the Muswellbrook or Denman pool.

Christmas Closure
December 23 – January 3

Muswellbrook Shire Libraries will be closed from 12noon December 23 until Monday January 2, 2023.

Muswellbrook Library will reopen from 10AM, Tuesday January 4, 2023

Denman Library will reopen from 2PM, Tuesday January 4, 2023

Return chutes at Muswellbrook and Denman Libraries will be open during this time.

WHAT’S ON FOR CHILDREN

STORY TIME AND BABY RHYME TIME

Join us at Muswellbrook Library’s Story Time, Baby Rhyme Time and Denman Library’s Storytime Time for music, stories and craft!

Please note that children’s programming including Baby Rhyme and Story Time will finish for 2022 from Thursday 15th December. Sessions will resume in 2023.

MUSWELLBROOK LIBRARY’S SESSIONS

Baby Rhyme Time: Monday mornings at 10:00AM – 10:45AM

December 12 from 10AM: Join us for our last Baby Rhyme Time session for the year, get into the festive spirit with Christmas stories songs and rhymes.

Story Time and Craft: Thursday mornings from 10:00AM, we have some festive activities to get you into the Christmas spirit!

December 1 from 10AM: DIY Advent Calendar, bookings essential as spaces are limited.
December 15 from 10AM: Join us for the last Story Time session of 2022 with a special Christmas Carol event.

DENMAN LIBRARY’S SESSIONS

Story Time and Craft:
December 8 from 10:00AM: DIY Advent Calendar, bookings essential as spaces are limited.
December 15 from 10:00AM: Create your own Christmas tree ornament.

LEGO CLUB

Put your Lego building skills to the test at Muswellbrook and Denman Libraries with our monthly Lego Club!

Join in on challenges that will make you think outside the box and push your building skills to the limit.

MUSWELLBROOK LIBRARY’S SESSION

Muswellbrook Library’s Lego Club will be held on the first Monday of December. This month’s sessions will be held on Monday, December 5 from 3:45pm to 4:45pm.

DENMAN LIBRARY’S SESSION

Denman Library’s Lego Club is held on the second Monday of each month. This month’s session will be held on Monday, December 12 from 3:30pm to 4:30pm.

WHAT’S ON FOR ADULTS

BOOK CLUB AT THE LIBRARY

Joining a book club can be a fun and interesting way to meet people as well as indulging your love of reading.

Muswellbrook and Denman Libraries host monthly book clubs that you can join to discuss this month’s read with a cuppa in hand.

DENMAN LIBRARY BOOK CLUB

The Denman Library book club is held the first Tuesday of each month. This month’s session will be postponed a week and held on Tuesday, December 6 from 1:15PM.

MUSWELLBROOK LIBRARY BOOK CLUB

The Muswellbrook Library book club is held the second Tuesday of each month. This month’s session will be held on Tuesday, December 13 from 2:00PM.

Bookings essential, please contact Muswellbrook library on 6543-1913 or Denman Library on 6547-2208 to register.

BRAIN TRAINING AT THE LIBRARY

Train your brain at Muswellbrook and Denman Libraries.

Join us and get ready to challenge your mind and exercise your mental agility. Each session will run for approximately an hour. Stay around for a cuppa and a chat following the session.

MUSWELLBROOK LIBRARY’S SESSION

This months session will be held on Friday, December 9 from 10:00AM

These sessions will be held on the second Friday of each month.

DENMAN LIBRARY’S SESSION

There will be no Brain Training session in December, sessions will resume as normal in January, 2023.

CRAFT GROUP AT MUSWELLBROOK LIBRARY

Join our friendly craft group 10AM Tuesday mornings each fortnight at Muswellbrook Library. Bring along your current project or start something new while having a chat and sharing inspiration and ideas!

This month’s session will be held on December 6 from 10AM.

UPPER HUNTER WRITERS COLLECTIVE MEETING

Join the Upper Hunter Writers Collective at the Muswellbrook Library each month for motivation, support and feedback from others who have a passion for writing. Even if you don’t plan on sending work out to publishers, but just enjoy writing as a hobby, this group is a way of sharing your love of the written word.

There will be no meeting in December, meetings will resume as normal in January, 2023.

BEN’S BOOK CLUB

Join Ben Hobson and Maya Linnell for a Christmas special on December 14, from 7:00PM AEDT, featuring Maya’s latest rural romance ‘Paperbark Hill’.

The two authors will also be discussing all things festive with podcaster and florist Rebecca Noble and Kristi Brooks from Mount Gambier Library.

During this discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, interact with the guests, and enjoy a light-hearted engaging conversation about books, floristry, gardening, and cooking.
