Welcome to the Muswellbrook Shire Libraries eNewsletter – the best way to stay up to date with all the news and events from the Muswellbrook and Denman Branches. Don’t forget to follow us on our new Instagram or Facebook for ongoing news and events.

This month Muswellbrook and Denman Libraries have a range of activities for all ages, including an author visit with Susan Duncan and our School Holiday activities. Be sure to check out what’s on below and contact your local branch for more information.

Our activities are inclusive. Please contact Muswellbrook or Denman library if you would like to discuss any supports for your family prior to attending.

LATEST NEWS

Public Holiday Closure
Monday October 2

Muswellbrook and Denman Library Branches will be closed on Monday, 2nd October due the Labour Day public holiday.
Our Library branches will reopen Tuesday, 3rd October from 10am at Muswellbrook and 2pm at Denman.

HSC Examinations at Muswellbrook Library 

Year 12 HSC examinations will commence at the Muswellbrook Library from, Monday 9th October until Tuesday 17th October.
As a result there are changes to entry into our library. Please follow all directional signage when visiting and utilise our side pathway up to the front door during exams.

Please contact the library on 6543-1913 if you have any concerns or require assistance access our facilities during this time.

School Holidays at the Library
September 25 – October 6

We have fun filled and hands on holiday activities planned at out Muswellbrook and Denman branches! 

Bookings are essential for all activities. Call Muswellbrook Library on 6543 1913 or Denman Library on 6547 2208 to book your spot.

Join Australian author Susan Duncan in conversation with local radio host Andrew Reynolds, about her newest book, ‘Sleepless in Stringybark Bay’.

CURRENT EXHIBITS

CLOSE TO HOME BY JENNIFER STUERZL

On display until October

Jennifer Stuerzl is Muswellbrook-born artist, with her family still resident in the region.

As an artist her vision is attuned to the natural world, with a change of aesthetic visible across the diversity of the landscapes that she has experienced and documented.

Using media including watercolour, acrylic and ink to produce paintings, artist books and prints, she summons the tactile and sensual qualities of particular places, often embedding sediments, feathers and other evidence of the site within the work.

PUP!-ART – ‘WELL HEELED’

On display until October 16

A Muswellbrook Shire Council Community Services art project celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Blue Heeler Film Festival. This project aims to cultivate a vibrant atmosphere of community solidarity and positivity.

Groups were given a white fiberglass life-size Blue Heeler sculpture as a canvas for their creativity, and a goal to create a one-of-a-kind design that reflects their unique contributions within the Muswellbrook Shire.

WHAT’S ON FOR CHILDREN

STORY TIME AND BABY RHYME TIME

Join us weekly at our story time and rhyme sessions filled with stories, song and creativity.

MUSWELLBROOK LIBRARY’S SESSIONS

Baby Rhyme Time: Monday mornings at 10:00AM – 10:45AM

Story Time and Craft: Thursday mornings at 10:00AM – 11:00AM

STEM Story Time: The third Thursday of the month from 10:00AM-11:00AM

DENMAN LIBRARY’S SESSIONS

Rhyme Time sessions will run weekly on Mondays from 10:00AM.

LEGO CLUB

Join in on Lego building challenges that will make you think outside the box and push your building skills to the limit.

MUSWELLBROOK LIBRARY’S SESSIONS

Muswellbrook Library’s Lego Club is held on the first and third Mondays of each month.
Monday, October 16 from 3:45PM to 4:45PM.
There will be no session on October 2nd due to the Public Holiday

DENMAN LIBRARY’S SESSION

Denman Library’s Lego Club is held on the second Monday of each month.
Monday, October 9 from 3:30PM to 4:30PM.

Suitable for ages 6 – 12 years.
Children under the age of 13 must be supervised by an adult at all times.

OUR SERVICES

HOME LIBRARY SERVICE

Did you know we run a free home library service to housebound members of the Muswellbrook and Denman Communities? We can pick for you, or you can use our online catalogue to make a selection of books, DVDs, CDs and Audio books that pique your interest. We also have audio readers available for members with low to no vision.

Deliveries will be made on October 3rd, 17th and 31st.

These BYO device sessions are designed to help you get started on library digital collections, learn how to use your device and general tech assistance.

These sessions can be booked one-on-one for a maximum of half an hour.
