Welcome to the Muswellbrook Shire Libraries eNewsletter – the best way to stay up to date with all the news and events from the Muswellbrook and Denman Branches. Don’t forget to follow us on our Instagram or Facebook for ongoing news and events.

This month Muswellbrook and Denman Libraries have a range of activities for all ages, including School Holiday activities, Embrace Kids film screening and a visit from Jamelle Wells! Be sure to check out what’s on below and contact your local branch for more information.

Our activities are inclusive. Please contact Muswellbrook or Denman library if you would like to discuss any supports for your family prior to attending.

Latest News

Library Closures
October 4th and October 7th

Muswellbrook and Denman Libraries will be closed on Friday October 4th and Monday October 7th, due to the Labour Day Public Holiday and Union Picnic Day.

Muswellbrook Library will be open on Saturday, October 5th from 10am-1pm.

Both Libraries will resume regular opening hours from Tuesday, October 8th.

Both branch’s returns chute will be available during this time for any returns.

HSC Examinations at Muswellbrook Library
October 14th – October 22nd

HSC examinations will commence at the Muswellbrook Library from, Monday 14th October until Tuesday 22nd October.

As a result there are changes to entry into our library. Please follow all directional signage when visiting and utilise our side pathway up to the front door during exams. 

Please contact the library on 6543-1913 if you have any concerns or require assistance access our facilities during this time.

‘Embrace: Kids’ Film screening at Muswellbrook Library

Join us at Muswellbrook Library for a free screening of ‘Embrace: Kids’, a film documentary that brings together a vibrant collection of stories from young people and famous friends alike who share their experiences about body image, bullying, gender identity, advocacy, representation and more.

This event will be held at Muswellbrook Library on Thursday October 24.
Doors open at 5pm for a 5:30pm start.
Bookings are essential. Book your tickets below by October 14th or contact us on 6543 1913 for assistance.

Snacks and drinks will be provided.
This film has a run time of 79 minutes and is rated G.
Suited for ages 9 – teens. Adult supervision is required for attendees under the age of 13.

Join Australian author Jamelle Wells in conversation with local journalist Jemma Anshaw at Muswellbrook Library as they discuss Jamelle’s latest book, ‘The Outback Court Reporter’.

Copies of ‘The Outback Court Reporter’ will be available to purchase for $34.00 (Cash only).

Where There’s a Will
September 23 – October 11

At the Muswellbrook Library.

At the heart of Positive Education is the development of character strengths—universal traits that help us thrive and perform at our best. In collaboration with Upper Hunter Where There’s a Will, our Upper Hunter Schools, Preschools, and Early Learning Centres have created a powerful and meaningful series of images that highlight the 24 Character Strengths.

As the saying goes, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” These visuals aim to bring each character strength to life, making these important concepts more accessible and impactful for everyone.


What’s on for Children

Bookings are essential for all school holiday activities.

ADVENTURE PARK LEGO CHALLENGE AT MUSWELLBROOK LIBRARY

Create an adventure park that will have your mini figs flying high with our latest Lego challenge at Muswellbrook Library. Will you create a rollercoaster? A giant zip-line? The possibilities and fun are endless! Suitable for ages 6-12 years.

GO THE DISTANCE LEGO CHALLENGE AT DENMAN LIBRARY 

Put your Lego building skills to the test to create a vehicle that will go the distance! Will your creation fly, drive or float? Suitable for ages 6-12 years.

Come along to Denman Library during the school holidays and create your own work of art. Our art station will be available during opening hours for the duration of the school holidays.

SPRING INTO STORY TIME  AT MUSWELLBROOK LIBRARY

 Celebrate Spring with school holiday Story Time session and create artwork based on our local environment, discover animal specimens and take home a plant for your garden with special guest Mick, from our Sustainability Team!  Suitable for ages 0-5 years.

CURIOSITY KIT LAUNCH DAY

Mark your calendars for an open day at the Hunter Innovation Precinct with the launch of our new STEM Curiosity Kits in collaboration with the Muswellbrook Shire STEM Innovation Lab!

10am ~ Muswellbrook Library for the launch our our new Curiosity Kits!

11am ~ Muswellbrook Library join Special guest Children’s Author and Science presenter Lee Constable to share her new book ‘How to Save the Whole Blinkin’ Planet’.

12pm ~ Muswellbrook Library a free lunch will be provided

12:30pm ~ the Donald Horne Building for more hands on fun at the STEM Innovation Lab!

This is a free event that everyone is welcome to attend. Our Curiosity Kits and Author Visit are best suited for ages 5-13years. Adult supervision is required for children under the age of 13.

STORY TIME AND BABY RHYME TIME

Join us weekly at our story time and rhyme sessions filled with stories, song and creativity.

MUSWELLBROOK LIBRARY’S SESSIONS

Baby Rhyme Time: Monday mornings at 10:00AM – 10:45AM

Story Time and Craft: Thursday mornings at 10:00AM – 11:00AM

STEM Story Time: The third Thursday of the month from 10:00AM-11:00AM

DENMAN LIBRARY’S SESSIONS

Rhyme Time sessions will run weekly on Mondays from 10:00AM.

LEGO CLUB

Join in on Lego building challenges that will make you think outside the box and push your building skills to the limit. Bookings are essential.

MUSWELLBROOK LIBRARY’S SESSIONS

Muswellbrook Library’s Lego Club is held on the first and third Mondays of each month.Mondays, October 21 from 3:45PM to 4:45PM.

DENMAN LIBRARY’S SESSION

Denman Library’s Lego Club is held on the second Monday of each month.Wednesday, October 9 from 3:30PM to 4:30PM.

Suitable for ages 6 – 12 years.
Children under the age of 13 must be supervised by an adult at all times.

CREATIVITY CLUB AT DENMAN LIBRARY

Come along to Denman Library for a social and interactive session where you will create and collaborate on arts and crafts projects. 

Bookings are recommended for preparation of supplies.
Our first session will be held on   Monday October 21 at 3:20PM to 4:00PM

Suitable for ages 5-12 years. Siblings are welcome.

CIRCLE TIME AT MUSWELLBROOK LIBRARY 

Join us at Muswellbrook Library for an interactive Circle Time sessions. Read some books, do activities, learn some new songs and let’s move to the beat! Suitable for ages 0-6 years.

Circle Time sessions will be fortnightly on Tuesdays. Sessions this month will be held on Tuesday, October 8 and 22 from 10am.

Join Ben Hobson in conversation with author Christian White to discuss his fourth mind-bending novel,

Our Services

HOME LIBRARY SERVICE

Did you know we run a free home library service to housebound members of the Muswellbrook and Denman Communities? We can pick for you, or you can use our online catalogue to make a selection of books, DVDs, CDs and Audio books that pique your interest. We also have audio readers available for members with low to no vision.

Deliveries will be made on October 1st, 15th and 29th.

Our FREE Click and Collect services are now available at Muswellbrook and Denman Branches to eligible library members. Reserve things you are interested in or let us make selections for you.

These BYO device sessions are designed to help you get started on library digital collections, learn how to use your device and general tech assistance.

These sessions can be booked one-on-one for a maximum of half an hour.
